THE STORY BEHIND DENARIIMay 26, 2026 · Sharmadean Reid

After the assassination of Julius Caesar, Rome stood on a knife’s edge. Mark Antony — Caesar’s most trusted general and friend — rose to power determined to protect his legacy and preserve the fractured Republic. But before any future could be forged, one question haunted him: Where did Cleopatra stand?
In 41 BC, Antony summoned Cleopatra to Tarsus to answer for her loyalty. She refused to leave Egyptian soil — and instead transformed the summons into theatre. Sailing up the Cydnus River on a gilded barge dressed as Aphrodite, she held court from the deck, never once stepping onto foreign land. Cleopatra turned diplomacy into seduction and Antony was captivated. That winter, they holed up together in Alexandria, feasting, playing and falling into a love as strategic as it was sensual — while Rome waited for Antony’s next military campaign in the East.
But Antony was not just a lover; he was a man of duty and he had to go back to work. In the spring of 40 BC, he left his now pregnant Queen and returned to Antioch to marry Octavia — the sister of his rival Octavian — in a bid to maintain political peace. He was caught between two worlds: the battlefield and the bedroom, Rome and Egypt, East and West.
In 37 BC, after three long years of no communication, he returned to Cleopatra — not as a conqueror, but as a man in need of her power. She was furious. She had ruled alone. Raised his children. But she did not turn him away. At night, she let him in. And in return, he knelt. He gave her kingdoms. He made their children heirs. The world would call it the Donations of Alexandria. But in truth, it was his surrender.
DENARII is the memory of his return. It smells like musty sweat and leather armour after battle. Like sandalwood scraped from a temple door. Like the kiss of frankincense smoke as he rode away from burning cities. In public, he was Rome. In private, he was hers.
This is a fragrance for the masculine divine, for those who command by day and yield by night. It is power made tender. The scent of a man who knows both conquest and craving. Who rules the republic, but melts in your hands.

FOUNDER'S NOTE
“I created DENARII thinking about the balance of force and intimacy. I’ve always been fascinated by men like Mark Antony. Someone who is a warrior, but also someone who let himself be moved by love. He gave Cleopatra land, armies, and his loyalty, but also lay beside her in silks; perfumed and open. That duality is what I wanted to bottle.
This scent is not aggressive, it’s smouldering. It’s the sweat of power after it has softened into passion. I wanted a fragrance that didn’t just speak of dominance, but of devotion. Something earthy and resinous, like the inside of a temple. Something sweet and smoky, like skin after sex. DENARII is the scent of a man who fights all day and returns home to be undone. For me, that’s true power.”

“The scent of conquest. The breath of a lover.”
DENARII is a fine fragrance cleansing shower oil designed for modern bathing rituals. Built around notes of frankincense, black pepper, cedarwood, patchouli, sandalwood, guaiac wood and precious balsams, the scent is smoky, resinous and warm — blending sacred woods, spice and soft skin into a fragrance that lingers long after bathing.
The oil-to-milk formula transforms on contact with water, cleansing without stripping the skin while leaving the body hydrated, conditioned and subtly scented. Formulated with plant-based oils including sunflower, grapeseed, avocado and castor oil, DENARII supports the skin barrier while delivering the sensorial depth of a luxury fragrance through both bath and shower.
Designed for those drawn to woody, spicy and skin-like scents, DENARII sits somewhere between ancient temple smoke, expensive tailoring and warm post-shower skin. Worn by men and women alike, it is particularly suited to evening rituals, post-gym showers, travel, dates and moments that call for confidence, grounding and quiet power.
Massage onto wet skin in the bath or shower, allowing the oil to emulsify into a light cleansing milk before rinsing away. For a deeper ritual, apply slowly across shoulders, chest and pulse points, letting the steam release the full depth of the fragrance.
